Materials & Costs

We researched various materials we could use for our prototype and our final design and their costs in order to select the best for our purposes.

Clearly, using metal would be too expensive to use for multiple prototypes, and even for a final design. We could afford to use either PLA or ABS for our designs.

Reflection: Clearly, we would not be able to afford creating prototypes out of metal for our project. This is very unfortunate in the fact that the original design for this tool is made from stainless steel. Our designs would unfairly and by default be less functional and sturdy than the original designs. Instead, we will consider recreating the original designs using the material we plan to use for our prototypes. This way, there will be a fair comparison to the original designs.
