Problem Statement:

There are a variety of tools that can be used to hold instruments while they are being used. These tools do not hold the instruments well and owning multiple tools for essentially the same purpose is redundant and counterproductive. The tools only attach to specific surfaces and are annoying to attach and detach.

Design Statement:

Redesign the percussion attachment to combine features of the original designs in order to improve clamping and unclamping speed and strength, and instrument-attachment convenience. Work closely with the end-users (Band Director Johnsen and his student percussionists) in order to target our design to their greatest benefit.

Constraints:

• Is not bulky (width-wise).
• Capable of grasping onto round and flat surfaces.
• Remains secure to the instrument and music stand/kick drum it is attached to.
• Can be readjusted quickly.
• Allows for more universal usage.
• Does not require tedious unscrewing.
• Can have multiple variations.
• User-friendly.
• Size similar to original design ~22cm in length.
• 3D printed plastic prototypes: $0.25/g
• Stainless steel prototypes: $15 + $0.30/cm³
