Ideation
What does Ideate mean?
The ideate phase is when you generate possible solutions to your challenge.
Then you decide on the idea you will prototype.
Our Top 3 Ideas
Idea 1 - A graphic novel symbolizing what people go through with certain disabilities/diseases. A competition will go alongside this where people from our school are able to create an informational poster about a chosen disability/disease from a list we will provide that will feature at the end of the graphic novel explaining what each section of the graphic novel will be about.
Idea 2 - A VR/AR experience where users are able to experience what it is like and where they complete challenges to get to future stages and at the end, a quiz will appear to see if they learned anything and if they achieve good results they can win chocolate or a different small award.
Idea 3 - Our last main idea is a 3D interactive sculpture that has pop/pull-out information to teach people about what invisible disabilities and diseases are. AS this is a physical item it will be interesting and impactful for users to touch and gold.
Final chosen idea- Our final solution idea that would help make a positive impact towards solving this issue within the community is to raise awareness by creating a graphic novel. Our graphic novel will have inspiring stories of everyday people and their everyday experiences with an invisible disability. Our aim is to make the readers and audience emphasise with the people in the book as we spread awareness about this issue. Many people with an invisible disability are quite afraid because people don't believe that they have this condition. An example of this would be when an employee with scoliosis has a really sore back in the morning and they need rest, however, they have to go to work and can't pull in sick without a medical certificate. This obstacle can cause many problems in the future. Our aim is to make it easier for people with this everyday problem. Our goal is to inform people about invisible disabilities so that people take into consideration that there is such a thing and there are many people with them.
The digital twist we have added to our idea is that is the back of the book we are going to add an AR experience QR code. Upon scanning the QR code they will be taken to a digital AR experience where they will see an online version of the book.

Graphic Novel- Planning Process
Here are photos of the process.
Creating the Graphic Novel Pages
As each of us had a job to do, Estelle's was to plan, draw and design the pages of our graphic novel. To do this she used her apple Ipad and apple pencil and an app called procreate. It took time drawing each individual page and designing how each character would look, depending on the chapter and storylines. Choosing colour schemes and creating the pages in a way it would catch our target audiences eye took careful time and consideration.

The Process of creating the Augmented Reality.
We started off by creating a storyline for our AR version of the book. The storyline can be seen from slides number 18-27. This is mainly done by Shreeji
We then created the AR display on canva. This would simply be a replica of the book just the messages would be different and there would be animations added to make it more interactive. This is mainly done by Shreeji
To add the moving characters we created the frames for them using Ibis Paint X, with each frame being a different layer in the same illustration so it's easier to see the relationship between each frame. Unfortunately, the images do not have transparent backgrounds, so they had to be manually removed. Each frame were then individually uploaded to Canva. The background is duplicated multiple times with each character frame overlaid over it. All built-in Canva animations were removed and the duration of each slide shortened, so the overall effect becomes that of an animation. The slides themselves are then cropped using Clideo to fit the page. This is mainly done by Sumi
After preparing the video, we converted the page we want to scan into an image file, as Overly does not support PDF files. Then we uploaded the image and the video onto Overly before shaping the video so that it fits the image. This is also mainly done by Sumi.

So how is this solution going to help solve the problem?
Feedback on Prototype
Feedback for our prototype was mostly good, but our prototype wasn't showcased much so no one had much feedback for the content of the book itself. The basis of the idea seems to be pretty solid and well-liked though, so few to no drastic changes surrounding the concept of the book itself would need to be made. However, we do need to work on the content itself a bit more so we may obtain more constructive feedback for our prototype. VR does seem to be a more interesting concept than AR, so we are considering adding an extra VR experience to the book if we have time.
We experienced lots of barriers whilst completing our prototype. Firstly, gathering feedback from stakeholders was quite difficult due to lockdown. Then communicating with each other was also quite hard, however overall it was very well done. We received lots of feedback that we have implemented in the prototype. The graphic novel was well planned from the start, and it was definitely a benefit having a skilled artist as part of our group. There were many ups and downs for the AR section, largely due to the fact that we couldn't find a suitable software. Mr Howan advised Overly, which we decided to go with. This software overlays an AR video on top of the book which we thought was very interesting and we could work around that to make it fit our expectations. We also decided that the AR videos will consist of an environment of where people are aware of invisible disabilities. So the opposite of the original graphic novel.
