Design thinking Process
The design thinking process is a great process for any project, big or small. Using this process you are structured and organised with the project you are doing. For our community project, the design thinking process was a major part and helped us stay on track and made sure that we covered each element for a strong final solution towards the unawareness of invisible disabilities. Our first step was to understand the problem and empathize with the people that are getting affected. In this step, we researched different problems within our community and after picking the problem of the unawareness of invisible disabilities, we researched, did interviews to make sure this problem was really a problem in our community. We empathized with people that have invisible disabilities and viewed the struggles that they go through every day. Through the weeks of research, surveying and interviewing we came to a final decision that this is indeed a problem within our community. Now it was time to move on to the next step of our process which is defining. In the step defining, we wrote insight statements based on the information from the research we received. These insight statements defined the problem and our goal towards fixing it. The next step was Ideation. The ideation part was fun and enjoyable, we had to come up with solutions towards fixing our problem. We can up with a range of solutions and in the end made a decision of going with a colourful, easy to read graphic novel and an additional Augmented reality experience. It was now time to create a prototype. The prototype took the longest, as for most of this step we were in lockdown. Making the prototype in our own bubbles was quite challenging but thanks to our determination and the helpful technology we managed to create a prototype that not only we were exceptionally proud of but even our stakeholders and teachers. The test part of our process was going back to our stakeholders and giving them our final graphic novel+ AR experience. We also were able to put our graphic novel in our school library. This was great as now many people would be able to read of stories and go back into our community with new lens towards those with invisible disabilities.
