Holidays- (2 weeks) Term 2
Week 1- 23/04/21
This week was our first ever community projects lesson where we fully got to meet our teammates and start discussing what we are planning on doing. We have a few ideas, but aren't fully sure yet. This lesson we mainly got to know each other, and we created a teams' page on the website.
Week 2- 1/05/21
In these 2 community project lessons, we discussed some issues relating to health and illness. We came up with the idea of looking at the after-effects of Covid-19, diabetes, epilepsy etc. This progress can be seen on the understanding section under the 'design process' page and in the community project booklet.
Week 3- 8/05/21
This week decided on doing COVID-19 and looking at the after-effects. We are pretty strong on this idea and confident. However, that same lesson while talking to a few teachers we told that this is definitely a problem however not so much in the community and if we did look at COVID it would be quite hard to find stakeholders and users in the community. We then found another topic to look on, which was invisible disabilities. This was a much stronger problem to look at, and there are so many people with different types and yet cannot be seen. So it sounded interesting. We did the 'understand' and 'empathize' section on the community project journey booklet by researching and filling in the doc.
Week 4- 15/05/21
We are now working on emailing and gathering responses from stakeholders for interviews + collecting data from surveys in order to fill the "Define" of the Community Project Journey Booklet. At the end of this lesson, we finished the "Approve interviews and emails", placing it in the "Done" list. Next lesson, we will focus on gathering the people we need to interview (after their responses) and collecting as much data on our surveys as we can.
Week 5- 23/05/21
This lesson we worked on interviewing the stakeholders that's we decided to approach. We also send out a google form to the entire STEAM class to ask for feedback on our problem and really asking people if they think it's a problem within the society and if so is there any way they can contribute.
Week 6- 29/05/21
We are now working on meeting more stakeholders and starting the ideation phase of our project. So far we have interviewed 2 people as one person was unable to.
At the end of this lesson, we finished our Define part of the project, the "Gathering of survey data" and approved the interviews+emails that we had.
Next lesson, we will focus on bringing together our research and data, thinking of solutions that we could develop on. We are also thinking about how this will fit into our limited time frame.
Week 7- 6/06/21
This lesson we gathered information from the stakeholders and gathered the results and creates a data analysis slideshow.
Week 9- 22/06/21
After completing the discovery phase and knew it was a clear problem that lots of people were not aware of many invisible disabilities within the community. All info can we found on community projects booklet and design thinking page of this site. We also decided to move onto the ideation part. Where are now brainstorming ideas to raise awareness about our invisible disabilities.
Week 10- 30/06/21
After brainstorming ideas we decided on the top idea. After deciding, we went to Ms Tomaz and Ms Smolko to let them know our possible solution idea. The whole lesson was spent on catching up with the admin stuff and choosing our main ideas.
Holidays- (2 weeks) Term 3
Week 1- 20/07/21
First lesson back from the holidays. We had one lesson to create a rough basic prototype using the scrap materials provided. We managed to create a small book with a QR drawing at the back. Next lesson we will be working on creating a sales pitch to present to the rest of the class along with a prototype feedback form.
Week 2- 23/07/21
In this lesson, we created a sales pitch and prototype feedback google form. All this was created, however, unfortunately we weren't able to perform our sales pitch due to the limited time. Will be done next lesson, however.
Week 4- 30/07/21
In this lesson, we presented our sales pitch virtually due to lockdown and individually gathered feedback from stakeholders. We talked about our prototype and asked if there is any way we can improve on it. She told us that we need to finish out the storyline and then come back. Other than that she likes our idea and thinks it will work well if planned and thought properly.
Create a storyline for our graphic novel (or test)
Working out a way to access AR software without having to download an app or being transferred to different pages/tabs.
Week 5- 24/08/21- Lockdown Lesson
Google Meet with Ms Tomaz just to inform her what we are deciding on doing as well getting further tips and feedback from her.
We are super glad that we managed to get some time to talk with Ms Tomaz about our community project. We discussed many points. We firstly looked at our graphic novel as a whole and we were glad that she was very supportive and happy about our idea. We then talked about the digital element- AR/VR, and she gave us a very helpful idea to make our project more innovative and successful.- Instead of doing AR look into VR and create an environment and lens for a person that has an invisible disability. meaning that it will give the audience is the visual effect of what it feels like and how you are treated when you have invisible disabilities. Almost like a simulation effect for the technology of VR.
The next step for us is to delegate tasks. Eg: Sumi works on VR and Estelle and I will work on the graphic novel and reaching out to users.
Also, contact a school councillor so that our graphic novel gets more promoted.
Decide which software for the VR.
Publish arrangement.
Week 6- 1/09/21-Lockdown Lesson
In this lesson, we had a talk with Ms Tomaz with the rest of the groups. We were told to make an action plan and update our site, workbook and log. All of this was done. We also decide to stick with AR and figure a way to use that.
Week 7- 7/09/21-Lockdown Lesson
In this lesson, we worked on our slides (information within our chapters) and confirmed our title page, introduction page and the of our book. We also reached out to Ms Tomaz to arrange some time with the councillors.
Our log, site, journey booklet is all updated. We haven’t quite been following our action plan but we know what to do and how to do it!
Week 8- 15/09/21-Lockdown Lesson
Figure out AR software- due to difficulties, we yet found one that is both suitable for us to use and create and for users to easily access.
We will also get in touch with Mr Howan and see if he has any softwares that we can use.
We also need to start drawing the images for our graphic novel- we have written the stories and now its time for us to draw images and put it in a graphic novel format chapter by chapter. This is a long process, however, we will aim to get it done in the holidays as well.
We will keep updating our site, action plan, blog and mentor log as well as sign-in on the 123 tech challenge site. Progress can be seen on the blog page of our site and the Colours at the end of the Rainbow Plan.
Week 9- 21/09/21-Lockdown Lesson
This lesson we figured out which AR software we are using with help from Mr Howan. The AR software is called overlyapp.com/. This software is free and is perfect for complementing our book. It basically tracks the image and in specific points of the image (book) and the app will overlay a video onto your phone screen. We have decided to have videos pop up and add to our storyline. For example, when the phone tracks through the writer's note page. On the same page will a video of us speaking will pop up. This lesson we managed to also do a trial run and that is located on the Solution's page under the AR section. Unfortunately, the user will have to download an app but isn't too much of a hassle, and we can link it to a QR code that will be accessible on the book. For the book, we have started drawing the images. We have also gathered feedback from the counsellors and as to what they have said, everything is being improved on. For the other admin stuff, the site, the mentor log, the blog, and the action plan is all updated. We have also made a project plan that is posted on the 123tech sign up.
Week 10- 29/9/21-Lockdown Lesson
This lesson, we noticed a problem with the AR app. So we tried to fix that. We also did a test run for the AR and tried to embed it into a QR code. For the book we finished designed chapter 1 in the graphic novel format. We aim to get all the chapters done in the holidays so that by next term we can print and bind our prototype. Thereafter, after the prototype is binded, we hope to professionally print it. For the AR aspect we also started planning our story line for the videos. This is will come to together during the holidays. For the rest of this lesson we updated everything and also answered a few questions for our community projects speech for English and the group static image.
Holidays- (2 weeks) Term 3
Through the holidays, lots of progress was done. We managed to produce heaps of the final graphic novel pages as well as some AR videos. We decided to create the AR videos on Canva, which would then be downloaded and embedded to Overly. Overly would then create it as an overlay of Augmented video. We will still have to fully finish the book and the AR videos.
We decided to professionally print our prototype after getting it checked by an English teacher. This would be the best option for us because since we are unable to physically bind it at school. We have decided to go with a trustworthy online company called Snapfish. Their software allows us to make and print our books at a reasonable cost.
Week 1: 19th October- Lockdown lesson
This lesson was quite short, we just touched up with the class and the teacher. The deadline for our prototype got deadline got set back for a week. Currently, we still need to finish our pages for the book as well as the AR videos. We are hoping to get this done by next Wednesday. Unfortunately, we weren't able to meet our past deadline of finishing the prototype after the holidays as some group members faced some internet issues, however, we are grateful that the deadline got set back!
This week we had a lot to do as our prototype is supposed to be fully finished by Wednesday. Unfortunately Due to difficulties at home our group is unable to fully finish the prototype by Wednesday 27th October. We have finished our graphic novel and created the AR overlaying pages, however, we are still yet to add the animations to the AR pages.
Before Wednesday 27th October we aim to receive stakeholder feedback by updating them on what has been done and what will be done within a few days. We will explain the prototype thoroughly and hope to receive some good feedback based on that. Our next step will be to update the log, site, action plan and CP booklet. This will be our last step and also before the due date, we hope to also do the evaluation.
In order to prepare for the final call on Wednesday, we have will create a small sales pitch and plan to effectively show our prototype (printed book + first page of AR that has been completed).
Week 2: 27th October- Lockdown lesson
Bang, Bang, Bang! Today was very hectic, however, it was great to hear the positive feedback that we received on the call and how we managed to get everything assigned to us almost finished. We have been given lots more work to do and as part of competing in the 123 challenge, we have to create a 10 min long video that basically sums up our project. We will be determined to complete this video to the best of our ability and all updates will be blogged.
This lesson, we tested out the AR experience and made a video how showcase this. We also managed to make a QR code that leads you to Overly (AR app that will need to be downloaded in order to view the AR experience).
We also managed to get stakeholder feedback for our final prototype. We received very constructive and positive feedback. More can be seen in the video and under the Design thinking page (scroll down to Test)
Week 3: Lockdown lesson- Video making lesson for 123 tech challenge.
This lesson, we prepared our 123 tech video. This 10 min video is a very important presentation that will be viewed by the judges and will give them a good overview of our project. In today's lesson, we focused on the time line and the structure of our video. As well as this, we recorded snip it's showing our prototype and of us speaking. There are also loads of animations included in this video that we have created using a software on Estelle very handy iPad. Our planning and process of creating this video is on the document below.
