Project as a whole

This was my third year doing this project. Students do this project in every class, so it is fun to hear what they have done in the past. This year we did a review on some of the things (seeds and pumpkin parts) while also incorporating new elements that we were learning in class (base ten system). I like giving my students the opportunity to plan what they want to make before it is time to actually make it. At the beginning of the year, it is very difficult for them to stick with their plan. Some make their plan too adventurous and find that they don't have the time or ability to create it, while others go too simple and end up adding lots to their actual design.  It is a skill that I see develop as the year goes on.
