Actor W. Earl Brown was born in 1963 in Golden Pond, which is now part of the Land Between the Lakes Recreational area. Brown is a first-generation Murray State alumnus who starred in the 1983 department production of That Championship Season. Brown graduated from Murray State University and moved to Chicago where he earned an MFA from DePaul University Theater School in 1989. Brown became a breakout performer in the Steppenwolf Theatre Company during his time in Chicago. Starting with the 1991 box office smash, Backdraft, Brown has been part of over 100 film and TV credits, with his most recent being The Unforgivable (2021).
Best known for his starring role as enforcer Dan Dority on HBO's classic western, Deadwood (2004- 06, 2019), some of Brown's film highlights include Scream (1996) and There’s Something About Mary (1998). In addition to film and TV performances, Brown performed voice and motion capture acting in Sony PlayStation’s The Last of Us, the 2013 Game of the Year, which has been recently adapted into a TV show on HBO.
