North Carolina-born (1948), Tennessee-raised award-winning cartoonist Joe Staton graduated from Murray State University in 1970 with an art degree. After graduation, Staton quickly began his career as a cartoonist in 1971 at Charlton Comics, where he created the superhero series E-Man with writer Nicola Culti. Later that decade Staton worked as an inker for Marvel Comics before moving to DC Comics in the late 1970s. While at DC, Staton illustrated the revived Justice Society of America. He drew new JSA Heroes "Power Girl" and "Huntress" and was the artist for a two-and-a-half year run with Green Lantern starting in 1979. More recently Staton has revived the syndicated Dick Tracy comic strip with writer Mike Curtis. The duo has previously worked together on other classic comics, including Scooby-Doo, Richie Rich, and Casper the Friendly Ghost.
