Betsy Cook is a Mayfield-born, UK-based singer, songwriter, and musician of the pop, rock, and folk-rock genres. Beginning in the late 1970s she collaborated with various artists such as Gerry Rafferty, Ray Jackson, Lindisfarne, George Michael, Paul Young, Seal, and Marc Almond. Cook is credited for playing keyboards for George Michael on his 1987 smash hit album Faith. Cook also lent her talents as a background vocalist and session musician to others, including Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Gerry Rafferty, and Seal. Cook released her own album, The Girl Who Ate Herself, in 1992 with EastWest Records after publishing multiple singles and EPs, such as Love Is The Groove (1991), How Can I Believe? (1992), and Docklands (1992) also through EastWest Records.Â
Cook received a Grammy nomination for her song Telling Me Lies after it was recorded by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris in 1988. This cover reached the top 3 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart. Other Cook-written songs became hits from artists Cher (Love Is The Groove), Donna Summer (Cry of a Waking Heart), and Stevie Nicks (Docklands).
