I was born and raised in Mohkinstsis (or the City of Calgary) on Treaty 7 territory, and for as long as I can remember, I have been a curious and service-oriented person. I am currently living in amiskwaciwâskahikan (or the City of Edmonton) on Treaty 6 territory, which is a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others.
In 2016, while working as a Peace Officer at a hospital in Calgary, I encountered a situation I felt unprepared for - an experience that compelled me to train for emergency medical response. During a paramedical course, a door was opened to my unrealized passion for medicine and science. As a medical student and future physician, my lifelong goals are to be a continuously informed, compassionate, and reliable medical expert; a leader driven to create systems-level change; and an advocate especially for communities who find themselves historically, persistently, and/or systemically marginalized.
I have a Bachelor of Business Management degree, which provided insights into the ubiquitous integration and application of business, law, and politics in everyday life. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Mathematics, which enables me to think critically and logically, rigorously apply (and recognize the limitations of) the Western scientific method, and function effectively within the scientific community.
I am a mental health and wellbeing advocate - a passion born out of my own lived experience encountering poor mental health, overcoming stigma, and contributing to a culture of wellbeing. I've also branched into advocacy for those affected by the ongoing drug poisoning crisis, especially for the most vulnerable including inner city communities.
I am also an avid rock climber, bicycle commuter, yoga enthusiast, curious cook, and world traveler.
I am grateful to live and learn with tremendous privilege and with growing authenticity, as I work to recognize my own responsibilities as a settler and future physician.
