Description

Represented millions of undergraduate students on a national committee, creating a globally unprecedented document providing high-level guidelines to Canadian post-secondary institutions; and presented at numerous workshops/ events providing student perspective and educating stakeholders. Since the creation of the national standard, I have continued to be involved with the promotion and implementation efforts locally, provincially, and nationally.

  • Spoke at an international conference attended by over 150 interdisciplinary changemakers on the topic of the health system in crisis from a medical student perspective.

  • Addressed hundreds of new graduands with a speech I wrote to inspire and motivate society’s future leaders toward embracing the complex problems and systems-thinking our world needs.

Participant

Participated in a co-curricular program designed to promote and integrate social accountability/ community engagement through seminars and concurrent partnership with a community organization. Seminars included sessions on asset-based activism, the social and structural determinants of health, and health economics. I was partnered with the Poundmaker's Lodge, where I assisted them with analyzing data from their program midpoint survey. I also created a digitized version of their form to help streamline their descriptive data gathering process.

Co-ordinator

The following year, I volunteered to help lead the program in collaboration with two faculty members. As a coordinator, I was responsible for presenting on social justice and medicine during orientation week, recruiting students to the program, designing and maintaining a course website, creating forms and timelines for students, supporting students in the program, and helping to facilitate sessions.
