First Responder Certified since 2023 BLS (til 2026)
In emergencies, I detect life-threatening conditions through effective primary assessments—including scene survey, spinal stabilization, responsiveness, ABCs, deadly bleeds, and pulse oximetry—then recognize when EMS is needed and employ life-saving techniques per Canadian Red Cross Professional Responder standards and provincial laws. I perform secondary assessments with history, head-to-toe exams, vitals, and ongoing monitoring, while triaging patients, assisting with medications, providing care for non-life-threatening issues, removing sports equipment as required, and making transport or physician referral decisions. Protective equipment is fitted and modified to meet safety standards like CSA guidelines, ensuring athletes stay protected during recovery.
I construct comprehensive, evidence-informed rehabilitation programs derived from detailed neuromusculoskeletal evaluations, integrating targeted exercise prescription, therapeutic modalities, and manual therapy techniques that align with defined therapeutic goals. Rehabilitation plans are continuously monitored, with progress evaluated and interventions adapted to optimize outcomes. Within both clinic and field environments, responsibilities include performing sideline evaluations to determine same-day return-to-play potential, facilitating functional return-to-activity testing, applying or fabricating padding and bracing, and fitting regulated protective equipment. Additionally, complete discharge planning is developed and implemented to support long-term self-management and sustained performance.

Therapeutic goals and objectives, including pain and swelling control, are identified and prioritized collaboratively with the patient. Prior to modality application, patients are assessed for indications and contraindications across electrical, mechanical, and thermal categories. Therapeutic modalities are then applied appropriately and safely to align with established goals and optimize rehabilitation outcomes.
