- Listen to the first 2:19 of this speech from Zoe Weil, the president for Institute for Humane Education. Although you are welcome to listen to more; I am asking you to listen to just her first description of her experience with advertising for Cascade, the dish washing detergent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t4uSi1OwQ. What is the role of the commercial in her life? Did she realize that she was the target of the advertisement?
- Read a long, online article: "The Rise of Sadvertising" by Rae Ann Fera: The Rise of Sadvertising: Why Brands are Determined to Make You Cry. As you read, watch as many of the commercials as you can, but be sure to check off the ones on this list:
- To demonstrate your understanding of "Sadvertising," pick two 'sadvertisements' you know (but that were not referenced in the article that you read) and write a short (public!) comment on the class <<Flipgrid>>. In your comment, do the following things:
- Name the company/product
- Describe the emotion that the marketer wants viewers to associate with the product.
- If possible, link to the commercial in your blog post.
