1. Final project
What
An ALM or online module on a topic for 101 or 201.
When
You will have time during Session 5 to brainstorm and pitch your ALM or module. You will then present rough drafts in Session 6 and final versions in Session 7. You can refine your materials in response to class feedback before submitting your portfolio.
Who else will see these
If you design an ALM, it may be used in 101 or 201. If you design an online module, it may be viewed/used by other GEMs in training. Both ALMs and online modules may be publicly distributed online.
How to submit
The video, discussion notes, and any additional research should be uploaded to your portfolio submission folder on Google Drive. All files related to this project should be contained in a folder with a name that contains the topic and the last names of both people who created it. (Example: SelfEfficacy_StJohn_Rotundo)
2. Two written code reviews
What
Your written feedback from Practice Code Review #2 and Practice Code Review #3
When
Both code reviews will be due midway through the course. You do not need to revise these, but you may revise them if you like.
Who else will see these
We may use selected code reviews to help train students in future classes. If we use your code review as an example, we will remove your name and other identifying information.
How to submit
A copy of your written feedback should be submitted to your portfolio Google Drive folder in the form of a PDF, containing either screenshots from UpSource, a scan of handwritten feedback, or typed notes (depending on how you did the review).
3. Three short written reflections
What
Expanded and polished versions of your initial reflections completed throughout the semester
How long are these
A few paragraphs, no more than one page each.
Topics
* Mindsets and Learning Strategies (updated to reflect back on how these concepts relate to other topics we discussed)
* Emotional Intelligence and Effective Feedback (updated in reflect on your experiences doing code reviews and the mock 1-on-1 videos)
* Diversity and Inclusion (updated to reflect on your experiences leading discussions and/or active learning)
Who else will see these
Just the instructors. These are meant to be private.
...however, if you would like to share your reflections with your classmates, you are welcome to place a copy of any reflections you want to make public in the shared Student Work folder. Please keep in mind that anything placed in the Student Work folder will be accessible to anyone with a @mtholyoke.edu account!
How to submit
Create a single Google Doc with all three written reflections (please label the reflections with headings so we know which we are reading!) and move the doc to your portfolio submission folder on Google Drive. Please name the reflection doc with your last name. (Example: Reflections_Rotundo)
4. Scripted Scenario
What
You will write a scripted conversation to demonstrate one of the topics we have discussed as it might come up in a situation you would likely encounter as a GEM.
(For more information about this assignment's parameters, see the Scripted Scenario assignment page)
When
Initially completed and turned in before Session 4. Revision and polishing for the final portfolio submission is encouraged.
Who else will see these
We will be using these to help train students in future semesters. We might also share these with other institutions who are interested in educating their students about the topics we cover in this class.
How to submit
Put your final version in your portfolio submission folder on Google Drive. Please name the document with your last name. (Example: Scenario_Rotundo)
