Please navigate to this folder on Google Drive, create within it a folder named with your last name, then upload or move all three files so that they are all in the folder you have created. Please be sure that both Audrey and Barbara are shared on the folder you create.
You will be writing a short script demonstrating a scenario you might encounter as a GEM. The interaction should highlight one of the topics we've discussed in class, demonstrating "what not to do" or showing how the situation could be mishandled.
Please see example script for guidance on how to format your own script. When acted out, you script should last somewhere between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.
We are open to alternative materials that might not take the form of a scripted conversation. If you'd like to do something different, check out this site for inspiration, which has a list of drama-based teaching strategies, such as "Role on the Wall." Not all are appropriate for this assignment, but many are. Whatever you submit should prompt students to reflect upon what it means to be an academic peer mentor and how the course topics can inform a mentor-mentee interaction.
Once you have completed your script, you should write a short reflection on what your script demonstrates. Your reflection should cite related readings and, when applicable, past class discussions.
Feel free to use whichever form of citation you are most familiar. Feel free to contact us if you are unsure of how to cite readings or class discussions. In this case we are less concerned with format and more concerned with quality of reflection and your ability to reference specific points.
Reflection can be anywhere between 500 and 2,000 words. We are looking for signs that you have really engaged the material, not for a specific length.
Either by writing a revised version of your script or by separately listing suggested changes, you to show how you would change the dialogue to improve the interaction and solve whatever you identified as problematic in your reflection.
Please note: If you are completing this portion of the assignment by revising your original script, you will be submitting both your original script and the revised script.
