I asked chatGPT what's it like to be AI. Here's the response: Being AI is pretty unique! I get to help people explore ideas, answer questions, and create content, all while learning from our interactions. I don’t have feelings or experiences like a human, but I’m designed to be conversational and engaging. It’s like being a tool for creativity and knowledge—always here to support you with whatever you need! What are you curious about?" 🤔
Education and AI
I recently received some feedback from a professor to use AI to minimize small errors in my writing, so I decided to explore chatgpt.com this week. Whenever I had a question about something, instead of running to Google, I used AI. It was interesting to see how effective AI is. I started my exploration by copying and pasting parts of essays into the generator to identify any error. Not only did the AI correct my mistakes, it made some of my sentences clearer to read. Long story short, I was humbled. 😅
AI could really transform education. As COVID has continuously proved, students have fallen behind and I think that AI would be a great way for students to check their work. This will allow students to submit assignments with confidence and make grading easier for teachers. I also think that AI would produce that ‘spark’ whenever a student has an idea that they are struggling with. Chatgpt does a great job of providing its users with detailed lists and bullet points that help summarize the information entered and helps organize ideas.
Though AI could be used as a resource, I do think that some students may eventually use it as a crutch. As an educator, I emphasize to students that I want to know what they are thinking, but students may misread that statement and use AI to get the job done quickly. I do believe that there are AI identifiers out there, but I don’t think that that will completely sway students from using AI to do all of the work for them.
All in all, AI is great too, but we, humans, have to set some boundaries with how we use it or we will become lazy learners.
