Behaviorism emphasizes observable behaviors and the influence of rewards and consequences on learning. Teachers using behaviorism might reinforce positive behaviors with rewards like praise or tokens, while negative behaviors might result in consequences such as timeouts or loss of privileges. (Cherry 2024) This approach aims to shape students' behaviors through systematic reinforcement, promoting desired behaviors and discouraging undesirable ones.

Behaviorism is a way of thinking about how people learn that focuses on observable behaviors. It suggests that people can learn through their interactions with the environment, where their behaviors are shaped by positive or negative consequences.  I'd like to talk about how Tik Tok has made an impact on behaviorism. 

Now if you're like me, you spend countless hours scrolling through Tik Tok. I like to learn the different dances, laugh at the ridiculous trends and judge the craziness that I see on a daily basis. As an adult who grew up at the beginning of the 'technology age', I am able to differentiate how some things on social media platforms like Tik Tok are not real. Most posts are set up to depict something in one way even if it is not authentic. For example, I have used Tik Tok to depict and overexaggerate different movie scenes. My followers who have seen the movies that I depict can relate, while my followers who have not seen the movie question what point I am trying to make. Their 'questioning' influences me to make content that is more relatable to them. 

I am a teacher of middle school students and of course ALL OF MY STUDENTS can quote and mimic Tik Toks all day, but if I ask them what a noun is.... (I tried to be funny lol just look below....crickets, ya know?)

Behavorism has impacted our youth and the best way to reshape society and to know more about behaviorism and how it shapes your own life. 

Behaviorism's strengths lie in its emphasis on observable behaviors and the principles of reinforcement and consequences. This approach provides a structured learning environment where students' behaviors can be systematically shaped and modified. It allows educators to clearly define expectations and use rewards or consequences effectively to promote desired behaviors and discourage undesirable ones. Behaviorism also facilitates objective assessment of learning outcomes, as progress can be measured through observable changes in behavior. Overall, these aspects make behaviorism a practical and effective approach in educational settings focused on promoting positive learning behaviors. 

Critiques of behaviorism highlight its oversimplification of human learning by focusing solely on observable behaviors and external rewards. Critics argue that it neglects internal cognitive processes and individual differences in learning styles. Additionally, behaviorism's reliance on external reinforcement may not always lead to intrinsic motivation or deeper understanding. Despite these weaknesses, behaviorism remains valuable for its practicality in shaping behaviors and providing structure in learning environments.
