As of 2022 I have more than ten years of teaching experience. I began my career teaching ESL in Japan for two years as an assistant language teacher through the JET Program. I also also spent one year in Korea teaching with EPIK. Both programs gave me the opportunity to teach in a variety of middle schools while collaborating with dedicated classroom professionals. Upon finishing my Chinese studies I returned to the US and took a job at Virginia Episcopal School where I worked for seven years as a Chinese teacher, international advisor, dorm parent and table tennis coach. During that time I also got my ACTFL tester certification and currently work as a language tester and rater for LTI.
Living and working in Asia and the United States has taught me how to thrive and adapt in different cultural settings. Additionally, teaching both ESL and Chinese has given me insight into some of the important differences between teaching an L1 vs L2. The MAFLT program has also helped me improve my teaching skills in any language.
