Flexible Seating

The Mahomet-Seymour school district has implementing flexible seating options district wide. Funds to help purchase the equipment for theses additions to the learning environments have been made possible through building funds, M-S Foundation Grants and Title I Mini-grants along along with building funds. Teachers and therapists have been able to supplement student's traditional desks with various flexible sitting options. Flexible seating varies within each grade level and even within each grade level depending on the needs of the student and teacher management styles.

Standing desks, standing tables, sitting tables, ball chairs, crate chairs, foam cushions, floor rockers, Hokki stools, V-chairs, Runtz Ball are just a few of the flexible seating options that are used throughout the school district. The nice thing about flexible seating options is that sometimes it can come at no or minimal cost to the district just good help from building custodial teams. Recently several First Grade classes implemented standing and floor sitting desks by just raising one table to a standing table height and lowing table to a sitting height. Floor cushions were bought at a local discount store for the sitting table. In all of the classrooms with the flexible seating options, traditional desks/ tables and chairs are made available to students.

Several staff members have also started using standing tables or desks for their work environments as they see the benefits as well.
