English & Business Communication

Prerequisite: Completion of English 3

EBC is a course that prepares seniors for their path after high school, with a strong focus on college-bound and work force students. Students will create a Professional Portfolio, which includes a resume, cover letter, college application essay, interview questions and responses, and letter(s) of recommendation. During the fall semester, students will focus on applying for jobs and colleges. During the spring semester, students will focus on applying for scholarships. In addition, students will participate in many activities that build their individual and group work skills. Toward the end of each semester, students will research possible career choices and 4-year paths that plan out their future. Students are required to participate in job shadows as part of the career exploration research project and required to give formal presentations on their career or 4-year path exploration and job shadow experience. As time allows, other workplace and preparatory college activities will be implemented to better develop professional skills, college readiness, teamwork, and personal skills. Please note: NCAA Eligibility and some colleges will not accept EBC as an English credit.
