Fitness For Life 1 course is designed to encourage the development of “intelligent performers” and to encourage
students to understand the importance of balanced, healthy lifestyles. Students will develop knowledge, critical thinking
and reflective skills and a sense of responsibility. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of team and individual sports,
which include skills, rules, and game strategy and physical fitness. This overall look at physical activity and physical
education will contribute to long-term healthy living.

Weight training is designed to familiarize students with basic training principles. Students will learn concepts related to physical fitness through the use of weights and other training methods. Students will understand the relevance of strength training to build muscular strength and endurance. Cardiovascular fitness will also be focused on during the semester.

Unified Physical Education is a class offered to both general education and special education students. The class is designed to encourage the development of “intelligent performers” and to encourage students to understand the importance of participation in lifetime sports as it contributes balanced, healthy lifestyles. Unified Physical Education provides a unique opportunity for students with and without disabilities to come together through ongoing educational and physical activities. The class supports the development of leadership skills for all students as well as the empowerment of students to foster an inclusive class and school-wide environment. Students in Unified Physical Education courses will have the opportunity to participate in competitions with other district high schools.
