In math, we are learning about...
I - Ready Beginning of the Year:
My overall grade level is 8th (537). This means that I tested at a Grade 8 in the beginning of the school year. I got and 88th percentile score. I scored the lowest in Number and Operations and Algebra and Algebraic Thinking (Early 8th) and I scored the highest in Measurement and Data and Geometry (Mid 8th). By the end of the year i-Ready test, I want to score in the 10th grade level. I will do this by working on the areas that are the hardest for me (Numbers and Operations and Algebra and Algebraic Thinking).
The myth of the math brain is that certain people have a math brain and are good and math, while other people don't have a math brain and aren't good at math. In reality, math is a skill that can be learned, thought it might be harder for some people than others. Mistakes are important because we learn from making mistakes, not getting right answers all of the time. In the one - cut activity, we had to cut out a triangle using only one cut. After a couple of mistakes, I was able to figure out how to do it. I feel pretty good about math right now because in the past I have had some really good math teachers who have been really supportive. I have a good math mindset, but in order for me to be successful in math this year, I have to practice at home, slow down so I don't make silly mistakes, and take my time when learning a new subject and remind myself that it's okay to not understand the topic immediately.
