7th Grade Lens

Our grade level lens is identity. My identity has shifted this year in many ways. For example I’m just as interested in getting to know others' identity as I am to get to know myself. I like sharing interests and trying new things and I enjoy sharing my fun with others. Overall my identity has changed by not only getting to know others but also sharing fun experiences.

My Significant Adult

My inspirational person is Sarah Jane or as I call her SJ. She inspires me because she is always kind and she is very funny. I hope to be able to show so much kindness and still have a great sense of humor just like SJ. She shows respect by always being aware of her surroundings like when she is at work. She shows effort by doing her best to always be kind to others which I always notice when I’m hanging with her daughter Matty at their house. She shows integrity by staying committed to her values like equality and equal rights. She shows refinement by learning more and more about topics that are important to her and refining her knowledge.

Effort ( trying your best even when things are hard)

The first habit of heart and mind I’ll be covering is effort because I think above all it is always important that you try and give things your all. I use effort during math to work through challenges. For example I often struggle with complex problems like work problems and I have to read them multiple times. I also get problems wrong sometimes and I have to keep pushing through and solve them until I get the right answer which can be very hard.

Respect ( being kind and treating others how you want to be treated)

The next habit of heart and mind is respect because I believe it is very important to show respect to the people and things in your life and be aware of your surroundings. I use respect during science by listening to my peers and my teachers. For example when we did practice presentations for each group I watched and listened then provided constructive feedback. Another example was we had a very specific format for our slides and I listened to my teacher and followed instructions carefully.

Integrity ( being honest and doing the right thing even if nobody is watching )

The next habit of heart and mind I’ll be going over is integrity because it is SUPER important to be honest and pitch in even if you haven't been asked to. I use integrity during humanities by keeping my eyes on my paper during tests and doing my homework. For example during C-MAS I kept my eyes on my computer only for the whole test and answered with only my knowledge. I also did all my Cornell notes on my own at home and turned them in without being reminded.

Refinement ( going back over things to make them better)

Finally I’ll be talking about refinement because it is always good to go back and make sure that your work is the best it can be and that you are pleased with what it looks like. I have grown in refinement, especially in my essay writing. I used to just fix my spelling and grammar then turn my essay in as a final draft. Now I read through my essay and add on to my evidence. Sometimes I rewrite a paragraph to make my argument stronger, and I also go through and take out filler words and make sure I'm not repeating any points.

Group Work Reflection

Ownership

I show ownership through taking responsibilities for tasks and being honest. An example of this is during our exhibition group work times we would divide the work up and I made all the bonus features on the map and completed my timeline information.

Helpfulness

I show helpfulness by helping people I work with through hard tasks and challenges. For example during partner work in math I helped my partner understand how to do tape diagrams and solve equations.

Respect

I show respect by being aware of my surroundings and listening to my peers and teachers. For example, during science my group wanted to take off information from the slides and change the theme a little bit, so I took off the information but made a compromise to stick with the original theme and change the format instead.

Overall Growth

I am proud of my Silk Road exhibition because it took a lot of work and commitment but overall it was really worth it and it was an awesome exhibition. I have prepared to move to 8th grade by completing my goals, going above and beyond what I felt like I could, and trying new things to broaden my horizons.

Conclusion

Overall this year I’ve grown in so many ways and had so many experiences which have all helped get to know more about my identity and about others identity. Thank you for listening to my 7th grade TPOL and I hope you have a wonderful evening,
