The Egg Drop project was where we where all put into groups with one or two other people. I was grouped with Josie and Reagan. Out egg drop contraption worked and was a base parachite design with a bag as the parachute, dixie cups which the egg went in, string and duct tape as ropes, straws as support, and cotton pads as padding. Our contraption did work and protected the egg.
Energy
The main type of energy during this project was gravitational because of the gravitational pull down that the earth had on the egg. The energy transfers from the top of the parachute to the cups that took the impact.
Mass and Impact Force
The more an object weights aka the mass, the acceleration will decrease. The acceleration is what affects the impact force of a landing object.
Newtons Law's with egg drop
The egg drop project shows all of Newton's 3 laws. It shows the first law because the contraption didn't fall down until Ms. Jen dropped it from the building. It demonstrates the second law because we calculated the system mass which was 103.2g and then multiplied that by acceleration aka 9.8. The result from this was 1012.4n. The third law is shown when the egg contraption falls. The action of Ms. Jen dropping the egg causes the reaction of the contraption floating done. In some cases the action of a rough fall would result in the reaction of a broken egg.
Acceleration
The acceleration of a falling object is caused by the gravity between the earth and the object. The acceleration on the earth 9.78 meters per second at the equator and around 9.83 meters around the poles.
Falling at the same rate
Every object falls at the same rate because the earth has the same acceleration no matter what to object is. The air resistance is what makes it seem like things are falling faster. This is because the air resistance is pushing up and slowing things down with its pressure. Slowing an object down all depends on the area of the object and the overall weight of it.
Designs
Throughout the egg drops we where able to see which designs worked and which failed. It seemed that the ones that worked the best where ones that had parachutes and had straws or Popsicle sticks to take the crash and the impact. These reduced the impact force of the egg drop.
Forces
During the egg drop there are two main forces that are shown. The first is gravitational when the egg is falling down. The gravitation pull to the earth is pulling the egg down. The second one is drag force which is the force going up when the egg is going down. There is also normal force when the egg is staying still once it lands.
