"Assistive Technology Device" means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability (OAR 58 I -01 s-0005(l )
Assistive Technology is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of students with disabilities who are not making adequate progress on their IEP goals/objectives.
You consider Assistive Technology for a student when the student is not making adequate progress on his/her IEP goals/objectives.

Ask the Question: "Is the student making adequate progress on their IEP goals/objectives at this time?"
If the answer is "yes" the student does not qualify for AT services at this time
If the answer is "no" the team should consider AT for the student
Steps:
1. The team reviews the student progress in the specific area and completes the Problem
Formation Form (AT Level 1)
2. The team reviews the AT Suggestions and Strategies Guide and start with the Modifications/Accommodations Section.
3. The team chooses the item/strategy they believe will best meet the student's need.
4. The team collects data using the Data Collection Forms (AT Level 2) in the appropriate
assessment area, for a period of time (2-4 weeks).
5. The team analyzes the data and uses the AT Data Analysis Form (AT Level 3).
*Data indicates: Student is making adequate progress
1. Continue this strategy.
2. Make changes andlor document in the IEP
*Data indicates: Student is not making adequate progress
1. Discontinue this strategy.
2. Try another modification/accommodation or go to the next intervention level in the Suggestions and Strategy Guide.
3. Complete Step Process with next strategy.
4. Consult with AT Department if needed.
