Reader's Theatre provides students with an exciting opportunity to retell the stories that they have read in a creative manner. As students retell the stories, they build confidence, develop language and communication skills. Keep reading to discover the exciting journey undertaken by our Primary 3 students!
As part of Primary 3 Reader’s Theatre Experience 2023, the students went on a learning journey to watch a theatre production “The Caged Parrot” being performed on stage by professional actors. With a blend of dramatisation, dance, song, and vibrant costumes, the performance was presented in an engaging and interactive manner. The students were encouraged to sing and react during the show.
After the performance, the cast members participated in a Q&A session with the students to pique their interest and foster a lifetime appreciation for Theatre and Drama. Then, the students were involved actively in a Drama Workshop to gain deeper insights into the story.
P3 students took part in another Drama Workshop to deepen their knowledge and learn essential skills to deliver a meaningful performance. These skills included learning the five points of speech (Volume, Speed, Tone, Pause and Intonation) and incorporating actions to bring their characters to life. Learning these skills allows students to enthrall their viewers with an exciting and lively performance.
After the workshop, students were hard at work over the course of several weeks in preparation for their own Reader's Theatre performance. As a class, they wrote a script based on the beloved story 'The Gruffalo', by Julia Donaldson. Then, they rehearsed diligently before finally recording their final performance. The result: a stunning story born from teamwork and creativity. Enjoy the performances by the P3 classes below!
