A three-dimensional object that has depth, width, and height.
A form is a shape with volume and can also be categorised into geometric and organic.
Words to use when talking about FORM
Geometric Forms:
Spheres (Rounded)
Spherical forms can convey characters and/or situations that are jolly, happy, cute, friendly, soft, warm, welcoming, and approachable.
Rectangular forms can express determination, strength, firmness, stability, and stubbornness.
Pyramids (Angular)
Angular forms look stable and grounded. They can express intellectual sharpness, sensitivity, and/or aggressiveness.
Organic Forms:
Organic forms are usually inspired by nature and mimics curves, bends and movement found in nature.
Freedom and Flow
Organic forms are fluid and can evoke a sense of freedom and dynamism.
Emotional Expression
Throughout art history, organic forms have been used to express a range of emotions from joy and wonder to sadness and introspection.
How to achieve FORM on two-dimensional surfaces?
There are three ways to depict form in a drawing or painting:
Showing more than one side (plane) of a form creates the impression of volume.
Contour lines define form as they show changes in surface planes.
