Student appear indifferent or hostile to teacher and thus lack motivation to follow teacher’s request or submit work
Teachers can:
Make a point early to engage in at least 1 positive verbal interaction with the target student.
Interact in positive ways throughout the rest of the class period through both verbal (e.g. praise comment after a student remarks) and non-verbal means (e.g. thumbs up sign, smile).
Emphasise positivity in Teacher Requests. Instead of “if you don’t return to your seat, i cannot help you with your work”. Say, “I will be over to help you on the work just as soon as you return to your seat”
