Positive praise when cooperative and well behaved
Praise should be given in a ratio of at least 4 praises to 1 criticism
Praise can be done quietly or in front of the class if the student is motivated by peer approval
Verbally praise the student and/or give them a high-five, pat on the back, clap or cheer
Make praises specific, personalised, and individualised. It should be specific about the behaviour that the student demonstrates.
e.g. “Thank you Ali for lining up quickly and quietly!”
Repeat praises if the student seems unconvinced at the first mention of the praise
Restate praises in different ways to get the point across
