Fuchun Learning Fortress

“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.”  ~ Jorge Luis Borges

After patiently waiting for a few months, our new and improved school library is open!

The new library is named Fuchun Learning Fortress by our students, in line with the castle theme. We hope that our students will be able to gain new knowledge through reading, as well as the different library activities specially designed for them.

Besides the name of the library, the different corners are named according to the theme too. We have the Chamber of Comfort, where students can sit back and relax while reading their favourite book. The Digital Dungeon allows students to loan laptops for e-learning in the library. The Courtyard of Confidence is also situated in the library, where students will be able to showcase their talents.

Fuchunians can be seen enjoying the brand-new space. Be sure to visit our beautiful library and select a good book for your reading pleasure!

Dismissal and Pickup Points

To ensure the safety and security of our students during dismissal, teachers will group the students by their after-school arrangement, e.g. pick up by caregivers at specific school gate, going home with siblings or by school bus, public or private transport, going to our school-based Student Care Centre (SCC) or external SCC. The teachers will then lead the students to the various dismissal points where other staff on duty will supervise their orderly dismissal.

New P1 students will be issued a lanyard with personal tack to indicate his/her after-school arrangement.

Procedure to pick up student who is unwell in school

Parents are not allowed to enter the classrooms or explore the school premises during school hours on your own due to security reasons. Parents are to report to the security guard post upon entry to pick up a ‘Visitor Pass’ before entering the school. You will then need to proceed to the General Office where the staff will assist you.

Our School Support

Q. How does the school manage bullying cases?

A. The school will not condone bullying. Bullying constitutes using deliberate actions / words to hurt or frighten someone else, often over a period of time, and often forcing them to do something that they do not want to do. The school will investigate the situation and take the students through a Modified Restorative Approach (MRP) to manage the issue. Parents of the students involved would also be notified for them to work in partnership with the school to guide/ monitor their children. Appropriate disciplinary measures will also be meted out where necessary.

Q. How does the school help students who require extra support in Mathematics?

A. The Learning Support for Math (LSM) Programme is designed for identified students who need extra support in acquiring basic numeracy skills when they enter Primary 1. Support will be for 2 years in a smaller class size and covers P1 or P2 Mathematics syllabus for all students through the Mathematics lessons during school hours. LSM focuses on building good Mathematical understanding and aims to build students’ confidence and positive beliefs about their ability to do Math. Our teachers use activity-based instruction to help students learn. Beyond P2, students who need continued support will be channeled to our Improving Confidence and Achievement in Numeracy (ICAN) Programme, a collaboration between schools and MOE to support and raise the confidence and achievement level of low progress learners. Our teachers use intervention strategies during the ICAN classes to help our students close their learning gaps.  Our Spatial Reasoning Programme (SRP) promotes structured and unstructured Learning through play. It aims to develop mathematical processes and metacognition that support the development of 21st Century Competencies and develop a greater awareness of the big ideas in Mathematics that will deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of mathematics.

Q. How does the school help students who require extra support in English?

A. Learning Support Programme (LSP) is an early intervention programme that aims to provide additional support to students with weak literacy and language skills. Identified students will attend a half an hour lesson daily during English lessons for P1 & P2 in a smaller class size . The main focus of the lessons is to develop reading, spelling and comprehension skills. In addition to LSP, during the first three years of their primary school lives, our students will be taught to decode, blend, construct meaning from visuals and texts through the various pedagogical tools employed by teachers. Our programmes like Fuchun Reads, Get Lit!, Share-A-Book Fridays, Characters Come Alive, NLB KidsRead also aim to promote the love of reading in these levels.

We also have a KidsLearn Programme (English) for selected P1 and P2 students with learning difficulties. The objective is to develop core literacy skills of these students to help them improve in Phonics, Reading Fluency, Vocabulary, Grammar and Sentence Construction. This programme is conducted by Educational Therapist engaged by the school.

Q. How does the school help students who require extra support in Mother Tongue Languages?

A. The proficiency of the Mother Tongue Language is progressively built up with strong emphasis in speaking and listening at the lower primary, and subsequently reading and writing in the upper primary. For all levels, the department adopts a systematic approach in developing the student’s proficiency in speaking to lay a strong foundation in the subject through various strategies such as show and tell, dramatization and oral presentation in class. The department focuses on using authentic and real-life scenarios to better engage students and develop their communication skills. Students who need additional support for learning of Mother Tongue are supported through our Buddy Reading Programme, Mother Tongue Support Programme for P3 and Subject Remediation.
