Future-Ready Communicators Programme (FCP)
In Fuchun Primary, we believe that experiential activities provide opportunities for students to take ownership of their learning, resulting in self-directed learners who are confident and able to actively share their thoughts with others.
In line with this vision, the school has identified oracy as an area of focus which allows for the promotion of joy of learning of the English Language through experiential learning platforms. Future-Ready Communicators Programme (FCP) aims to allow students and teachers to utilise a diverse range of strategies such as Speech and Drama, Reader’s Theatre and Storytelling to impart oracy skills to enable students to engage in practical applications of the languages in authentic scenarios.
The desired outcome of the Speak Up! Programme is tightly linked to the development of the 21st century competencies in our students as they will learn how to:
Think inventively and critically (CIT) through the scripting and brainstorming process
Communicate and collaborate effectively (CCI) through the planned oracy programmes
Exhibit global and cross-cultural awareness (CGC) through the various activities carried out in and outside class.
Beyond the abovementioned immediate outcomes, the school believes that the programme will also translate to cognitive gains such as transference of reasoning skills across subjects, personal and social gains including attitudes towards learning and greater self-esteem, and finally, civic engagement and empowerment as students gain the ability to understand, manage and debate about social issues. This is as oracy is concerned with the complex ways in which language skills, interpersonal skills and thinking skills work together and affect each other in the social context of school.
Tier 1: for all students in Fuchun Primary School
The programme is carried out progressively and involves the various learner blocks: lower primary, middle primary and upper primary.
At the lower primary block, exciting and fun oracy activities such as Speech and Drama and Speech and Drama through the use of EdTech to develop the love for the languages in the students and promote the joy of acquisition for the English Language and Mother Tongue Languages.
At the middle primary block, structured oracy activities such as Reader’s Theatre and the creation of Informative Speeches provide opportunities for the students to apply their learning of the oracy skills in the activities and creation of oracy products. They can also learn to see the relevance for the use of the languages in their lives.
As for the upper primary block, students get to apply the language skills acquired in authentic situations and share thoughts actively through the creation of opinion and persuasive speeches in Public Speaking and interviews.
Throughout the learner blocks, the programme seeks to develop a strong sense of civic responsibility through the values-driven activities and community involvement.

Tier 2: for the interested and talented participants
Talented and interested English Language and Mother Tongue Languages learners from Primary 3 to 6 levels will be identified for an extension programme intended to engage them in activities that will develop their potential in the language and contribute to the community. These activities will be part of the school’s current Junior Reporters CCA formed in 2022 which was previously known as the Speech and Drama Club (CCA), and student leadership programmes conducted after school hours. Students in the programme are given opportunities to receive modular instruction in the following domains:
Oral Communication
Students are taught how to communicate effectively using the non-verbal cues like body posture, eye contact and how they can best articulate their thought process with good use of the language.Scripting
Development of skills in written communication through brainstorming in groups and plot development would be explicitly modelled and showed to students.Storytelling / Presentation
Students are taught presentation skills and strategies from which they will be able to deliver an engaging storytelling session to their peers and teachers.Hosting and Interview
Students are taught to observe and respond to their surroundings so as to understand the cues of a live performance.Debate
Students are equipped with basic argumentation skills to present disputative, persuasive and compelling oratory. They will also have a chance to debate and practice what they have learnt.
After the acquisition of skills, students are involved in self-directed projects that will meet the school and community’s needs. For instance, our students have scripted and prepared materials for advocacy e.g. engaging the school population in Cyber Wellness tips / National Education assembly talks, hosting school's events and engaging the public on environmental awareness as part of service learning.
