The Year 10 English course, helps students build strong skills in reading, writing, and thinking. In Reading and Responding to Texts, students explore a range of stories, plays, films, and non-fiction. They learn how authors use language to create meaning and express ideas, and they respond with clear, thoughtful writing. In Creating Texts, students write their own pieces, including stories, essays, and creative responses. They focus on planning, editing, and using language for different purposes and audiences. Indigenous stories (mentor texts) are embedded in the curriculum in this unit. In Exploring Argument, students learn how to analyse, create and present persuasive texts. They examine how arguments are built using evidence, logic, and persuasive techniques. By the end of the course, students are confident in sharing ideas, building strong arguments, and understanding how language can be used in powerful ways. The course has been designed to meet the Level 10 English Victorian Curriculum 2.0 standards.
