All students will take part in Health and PE in year 10. Students complete two of the below offerings throughout the year:
Health/PE Offerings:
Fitness for Me: The unit will highlight the benefits of an active sporting life through a blend of theory and practical activities. Students will explore aspects of fitness, including physical, mental, and emotional well-being that can stem from regular physical activity. Students will participate in High Intensity Interval Training as well as wellness activities.
Live Long, Life Long: Students explore a variety of non-traditional sports and physical activity opportunities. These sports tend to be lower intensity and accessible to all participants. Examples of these sports may be Lawn Bowls, Croquet, Spike Ball, Pickleball and Disc Golf. Students will assist in the planning of this unit.
Movement, Rhythm and Fitness: A high-energy program that exposes students to several differing fitness program options. This program aims to improve fitness in a fun, nurturing, and more engaging way and focuses on activities that engage students in activities that utilise both rhythm and sustained movement sequences such as Dance, Zumba, Aerobics, and Yoga.
Net Sports: Net sports is a mixed bag of any sport that involves a net. Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball or Pickle Ball are all examples of small sided net sports that could be offered in this subject.
Students also have the option to choose another Health and PE elective, Physical Education and Human Movement, as an addition to their compulsory Health and PE units.
This elective unit is designed for students who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of Physical Education and Human Movement in preparation for VCE Physical Education. The course integrates theoretical learning with practical applications to enhance students’ knowledge, skills, and performance in physical activity settings.
Students will explore four core areas that form the foundation of senior Physical Education studies:
Anatomy and Physiology – examining the structure and function of the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems and their role in human movement and performance.
Biomechanics – understanding the principles of motion, force, balance, and technique to improve skill execution and analyse sporting performance.
Energy Systems and Production – investigating how the body produces energy for physical activity, including aerobic and anaerobic pathways, and their application in different sports and activities.
Skill Acquisition and Motor Learning – studying how individuals learn and develop skills, factors that influence skill development, and strategies to improve performance.
