(let's kids answer)
Life skills is a term used to describe a set of basic skills acquired through learning and/or direct life experience that enable individuals and groups to effectively handle issues and problems commonly encountered in daily life.
Life skills help us succeed in life. Life skills help us set & achieve goals, solve problems, respect one another and more!
A life skill can be as simple as learning to do your own laundry or as big as learning to be respectful.
THIS MONTH'S LIFE SKILL IS...
WHAT YOU SAY: WHAT IS CONFIDENCE? WHAT IS GOAL SETTING? Does anyone know?
(let kids answer)
Definition:
CONFIDENCE = a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities.
GOAL SETTING = the process of deciding what you want to achieve over a particular period of time.
So, being sure of yourself and setting goals and achieving them will get you very far in life!

WHAT YOU SAY:
OK FRIENDS, we are going to do an activity. Pull out 2 blank pieces of paper, markers, scissors, glue. We are going to make a list of adjectives - words that describe us. I'm going to show you my activity sheet so you can see what the end product will look like.
WHAT YOU DO: Write your name on the center of the blank paper. Write positive words that describe you. Cut them out and paste them around your name. Show kids your finished product.
Write down words that describe you on a this paper. It can be negative or positive. Put a little bit of space in between these words as we will be cutting them out.
Now, focus only on the good things that people have said about you and make sure you have them listed.
Now I want you to cut out all of the positive words.
Write your NAME in big letters in the center of the blank piece of paper. j
Now I want you to glue all of the positive words around your name.
Let me see when you are all done.
You can hang this sheet in your room if you want to reinforce positive beliefs in yourself.
WHAT YOU SAY: OK friends, I have an activity you can do at home this month. In your packet is a "ME FROM A-Z" sheet. Pull that out so I can see that you have it...
Sometime this month, you can complete this sheet. Simply write positive words that describe you beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Maybe A = Artistic. B= Brave.... Understand?
This can be hung in your room too so you can fill your room with LOTS of Positive words to describe YOU!
WHAT YOU SAY: OK Kids, it's time to move it! Let's stand up and show your dance moves!
WHAT YOU DO: Stand up, dance along with kids.
(an opportunity to review this month's Life Skill and apply it to their lives)
WHAT YOU SAY: It was so much fun to be with you today.
Does anyone have anything else they would like to add about Confidence and Goal Setting?
