Wrap Up Review
WHAT YOU SAY: Good morning everyone! So we are on our 3rd month and learning so much! Tell us, how did you show LOVE this past month?
WHAT YOU SAY: What is a CHARACTER trait?
It is an attribute that makes up and distinguishes an individual. Some statements on CHARACTER...
1. Character is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.
2. A true test of character isn't how you are on your best days but how you act on your worst days.
3. The truth of your character is expressed through the choice of your actions.
EVERY MONTH WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT A DIFFERENT CHARACTER TRAIT...
WHAT YOU SAY: WHAT IS GRATITUDE?
The use of imagination. Something new and valuable is formed. Coming up with alternate solutions. Being innovative. It is a skill and a process. You can use it to learn and you will get better at it.
Now let's watch a few videos on creativity...
WHAT YOU SAY: There are so many ways to be creative! Let me think about some ways I think I am creative.... I
What about you? Can you think of any ways you are creative? (let kids talk about ways they are creative)
Now let's go to our Opening Activity.
WHAT YOU NEED: Paper, markers, mirrors
WHAT YOU SAY: So, let's pull out your paper and markers. Take your paper and draw a self portrait. You have 5 minutes. Take a quick peak in a mirror if you need to.
(wait 5 minutes)
Each portrait looks different, which shouldn't be a surprise since each of us was created differently. Some of us have blue eyes, some brown eyes. Look around at all the different hair colors we have. Even though a few of us have brown hair, we still have different shades of brown. We were all created differently, but one big thing we have in common is that we are all creative in our own ways.
(Transition) Now it's time for this week's lesson on creativity.
WHAT YOU SAY: We are going to watch a short lesson on creativity .
WHAT YOU SAY: We've talked about a lot of different ways to be creative. Now get ready we are going to play a game... CREATIVE BINGO!
Look in your binder under October and pull out your bingo card.
CREATIVE BINGO
WHAT YOU DO: You're going to ask the kids different ways to be creative. Make a list of the kids' creativity traits while the kids fill in their bingo cards.
WHAT YOU SAY: So the first person with 5 in a row WINS. OK guys, name one way you can be creative. Now everyone write that word on 2 of your spaces. I'm going to write it on my index card. We are going to make a list of at least 15 things that people are good at doing (dancing, swimming, singing, writing, baking, reading, designing, building, helping etc.)
WHAT YOU DO: Prompt kids to include things they enjoy doing. As kids share their ideas, write each one down on an index card. Give kids a “Bingo Template” and set out the index cards where everyone can see them. Encourage kids to fill in the empty squares with ideas from the cards. If necessary, kids can use the same idea for multiple squares. When kids finish filling in their bingo card, play a game of Bingo.
WHAT YOU SAY: The middle space is a free space.
I'm going to Shuffle the index cards.
Now I'm going to Draw a card and read it to the group.
Players put an X on the creativity trait on your bingo card that matches the index card drawn.
Now I will Shuffle the index card back into the pile.
Draw the next card and read it to the group.
Players put an X in the square on their bingo card that matches the index card drawn.
Players can only place one X for each card called.
(If a kid wrote “dance” in three squares, the “dance” index card must be drawn three times to mark all three squares.
The first player with five in a row wins. When you have 5 in a row, stand up and shout out CREATIVITY!
WHAT YOU SAY: “When we look at all that has been made, we see how creative everyone and everthing is. Just look at all the colors created or the different types of plants and animals. And look at each of you! You are all human, yet each of you have different things you enjoy and different talents. Some of you are good at art or designing cool structures with blocks. Some of you enjoy sports or music. Some of you love to read. Imagine what you could do because you are all so different.
Each month we will end with something called the BOTTOM LINE. It is the one thing we want you to take away for the month and practice. This month's BOTTOM LINE IS...
Each of you are creative. Look for ways this month to use your creativity. When we meet back up next month, we want to hear all of the ways you were creative!
WHAT YOU SAY: OK Kids, it's time to move it! Let's stand up and show your creative dance moves!
WHAT YOU DO: Stand up, dance along with kids.
(an opportunity to review this month's Character Trait and apply it to their lives)
WHAT YOU SAY: It was so much fun to be with you today. I'm excited for you to share the ways you will be creative this month. Here's one way I'm going to practice being creative this month...
Now we want you to share a way that you can practice being creative this month. Can anyone think of a way you might show creativity this month?
OK guys, those are all great ideas. On the count of 3, we're going to say GO BE CREATIVE.
1 - 2 - 3 - GO BE CREATIVE! Shoot off cannon. Wave. SEE YOU NEXT TIME!
