Note: All modes are shown in chronological order.
Note: Team format is the most common/default one listed. For example, in Snowbrawl, it can be either two teams or free-for-all, but since free-for-all is more common it is the one listed.
Team formats:
Free-for-all: Everyone for themselves. TYCOON, DRAINED MODE, HIDDEN MODE, INFINITY MODE, SUPER RICH MODE, DRAW THAT, FISHTOPIA, SNOWBRAWL, DON'T LOOK DOWN, KNOCKBACK.
Multiple teams: Multiple teams of a specific size are competing against each other. TEAM TYCOON.
Two teams: Two teams are competing against each other. HUMANS VS ZOMBIES, TAG DOMINATION, CAPTURE THE FLAG, BLASTBALL, COLOR CLASH.
Collaborative: The entire class is working together towards a common goal. THE FLOOR IS LAVA, FARMCHAIN, ONE WAY OUT, DIG IT UP, APOCALYPSE.
Two uneven teams: Two teams are competing against each other and one of them is larger than the other. BOSS BATTLE, TRUST NO ONE.
Unidirectional shifting teams (Infection): Starts out as two uneven teams where one team is 1 player and the other is everyone else. Then as the game progresses, players get moved to the initially small team until everyone is on that team. SNOWY SURVIVAL.

In Tycoon, the goal is to get the most money. Students answer questions to gain money if they are correct (and lose money if wrong) and can by upgrades and powerups to increase their money, be safer, or sabotage others. There are four main upgrades each in 10 tiers: Money Per Question (more money gained or lost per question), Streak Bonus (more extra money per question that stacks quadratically), Multiplier (all money gained or lost gets multiplied), and Insurance (only pay a percentage back when you answer incorrectly). There are also a variety of powerups that can sabotage other players, or gain money. One of them even allows you to use all of your powerups a second time! Most money after a set amount of time wins.

Team Tycoon is the same as Tycoon, except for one thing: Instead of students' correct and incorrect answers going to their own cash pile, it goes to their team cash pile. A player is even allowed to use money that their teammates earned for them. This means that teams can go faster than normal. Team with the most money at the end wins.

Drained is like Tycoon, except every minute, a small fraction of your money is drained, similar to paying taxes.
September 9, 2019 | Free-For-All | Non-2D
Hidden is like Tycoon, except that all names are replaced by "Someone" and balances are hidden. This is likely to prevent students from feeling they were being targeted by bullies.
September 12, 2019 | Free-For-All | Non-2D
Infinity Mode is like Tycoon, except that there are six extra powerups which are stones. Stones can be used and the game ends when one player collects and uses all six stones. Then there is something called "the snap", and every player has a 50/50 chance of winning or losing, regardless of whether they were the "snapper" (player who collected all stones), or even if they didn't answer a single question right the whole game.
September 13, 2019 | Free-For-All | Non-2D
Super Rich Mode is similar to Tycoon, except that all earnings are multiplied by 500x. Prices of items are also significantly more expensive.
September 30, 2019 | Two Uneven Teams | Non-2D
In Boss Battle it is like Teams, except it is one player against everyone else. The Boss's earnings are increased to make it more fair.

Not to be confused with Apocalypse. Students are split into two teams, Humans and Zombies. Each team is identical except for the name. Each team starts with 700/700 health and loses 3 health every 2 seconds. First team to have health at or below 0 loses. There are also three extra powerups: Sabotage (decrease opponent's health by 40), Repair (increase your health up by 30 or to your max health - whichever is lower), and Strengthen (increase your max health by 15).

In Floor is Lava, there is an extra category called Builds, where players can add to the tower. There is a lava level that is constantly increasing and accelerating. The goal is to survive above the lava for as long as you can. When the lava level exceeds the tower level, the game is over. Note that all builds take time to complete.

Trust No One has no Tycoon powerups or upgrades. Students are split into two teams: Crewmate (most of the class) and Impostor (usually 2-3 people). There are a limited number of "meetings" (usually impostors plus 1) and "investigations" (usually crewmates times 10). Hosts and crewmates can Call Meetings, which decreases the number of "meetings" by one but allows everyone to vote off players who they suspect are impostors. If, during the meetings, all impostors are voted off, then the crewmates win. If there is an impostor remaining after all meetings, then the impostors win. There is something called The Clear List where impostors can never, ever get onto. Crewmates have four special abilities that help them determine impostors: Private Investigation (decreases # of investigations by 1 but allows them to run an investigation and results are only shown to you - if they investigate an undisguised impostor they will get Inconclusive while if they investigate a disguised impostor or a crewmate they will get either Inconclusive or All Clear), Public Investigation (decreases # of investigations by 1 and like Private Investigation, but if it is All Clear AND it was actually a crewmate then the crewmate gets put onto the Clear List), Note Look (look at someone's investigation record), and Call Meeting (call a meeting). Impostors have two abilities that help them blend in as a crewmate: Fake Investigation (decreases # of investigations by 1 and fakes investigating a crewmate), and Disguise (appear as a crewmate next time someone investigates you). Impostors have two other abilities that sabotage crewmate operations: Unclear (force a crewmate to never appear on the clear list) and Investigation Remover (decrease # of investigations by 3).

The host chooses one player to be the "drawer" who draws a term they selected from the kit out of 3 random terms. The drawer tries to draw, while other players try to guess what the term is. The drawer gets up to 2000 points per round depending on how many people guessed the term right. The guessers get 1000 points if they guess right, an extra 400 if they guess right on their first try, and up to 600 extra for speed. Player with most points at the end wins.

Fishtopia is the first 2D mode in Gimkit chronologically and is seventh alphabetically due to many modes having names near the start of the alphabet. Players answer questions at the QAS on the main island to earn bait. There are lakes on the main island where players can fish as well as a sell station to sell fish for cash. Players can buy tickets to get better fish at different lakes, eat hidden berries for benefits at the best lake (Lucky Lake), purchase powers to help them (such as running or fishing faster), and get better backpacks and fishing rods to help them during fishing. Note that there is no QAS or sell station in the peripheral lakes.

There is a large map and players are divided into two teams, Vortex and Echo. Players answer questions to gain energy, which allows them to move around and purchase upgrades. Tag Domination is the only mode where there is a maximum amount of energy a player can hold at one time. Players run around and each team gets a 45-second tag window and a 45-second run away window (teams take turns tagging). If two players on opposing teams collide, the team whose turn it is to tag earns one point, and the player tagged (the other team) gets sent back to their home base. Players can purchase access to different areas and teleportation stations, as well as five different main powers that they can use to purchase upgrades: Speed (run faster), Efficiency (drain less energy while running), Energy Per Question (gain more energy per correctly answered question), Endurance (increase maximum amount of energy), and Energy Generator (gain a small amount of energy for free every few seconds, not very useful because every 7 seconds you earn 120 energy but every correct question earns you 5000 energy). The first four powers come in three tiers, while the generator comes in two tiers.

Capture the Flag is the most fun gamemode to be a commentator for, especially during exciting half-combos and tense matchups. Despite being called "simple" by Gimkit, it is actually highly strategic. Players are split into two teams, Echo and Vortex. Each team controls one half of the map and players answer questions to gain energy. There is a flag on each side of the map, and there is a safe zone around it where defending players cannot enter. The map is rectangular but there are also various tunnels on the top and bottom sides of the map. Players can also use energy to purchase Speed, Efficiency, Energy Per Question, and Invisabits (allowing players to be invisible for a short period of time). Players cannot be invisible while carrying the flag. Players can also purchase access to teleportation stations and build barriers using energy to block off areas near the flag or tunnels.

Farmchain is the most boring 2D Gimkit mode. In Farmchain, players answer questions to gain energy, which they use for planting seeds, buying special seeds, getting water, conducting research, or moving around. Research to unlock new seeds, then buy the seeds with cash, then plant the seeds using water and energy, then harvest the seeds, then sell the seeds for cash. Try to get the most cash at the end of the game.

Snowbrawl is an exciting gamemode with a small map where players have snowball launchers. Players answer questions to gain snowballs, then shoot them at opponents. Each player has health, and when a snowball hits them, they lose some health. If a player's health goes below zero, then they respawn, and the person whose snowball was the final blow earns 1 point for a knockout. The player with the most knockouts at the end wins. Also, players can use snowballs to purchase med packs and shield cans, which restore health.
February 27, 2023 | Unidirectional Shifting Teams (Infection) | 2D
Snowy Survival is a gamemode where players try to survive as long as possible. One player is randomly chosen to be "cursed", and given a snowball launcher. Cursed players try to knock out non-cursed players. If a non-cursed player is knocked out, they become cursed. The non-cursed try to evade the cursed. Non-cursed answer questions for energy, while cursed answer questions for snowballs. Non-cursed regenerate health over time. Players (both cursed and non-cursed) can fish at the lake for different kinds of fish, read lore, or farm. Players can farm for health items (which require energy), snowball launchers (which require different kinds of fish), and gold keys (which require gimfish). Non-cursed players can also buy snowballs at a vending machine for energy.

In One Way Out, there are evil plants in your spaceship. There are a variety of weapons that you can use to fight against them. The goal is to destroy the evil plants and get off the ship. Also, each evil plant has a 5/8 chance of dropping a green keycard. There are barriers and you need green keycards to unlock them. To unlock new weapons and rarities, you can buy them using cash (1 cash per knockout). Also, players can get free health items, but only between groups of evil plants called "stages" or at the home base. Players can also use cash to unlock teleportals that can quickly put them back at the end of a stage that they had already passed so they don't have to go through it again.

In Don't Look Down, the goal is to be the first to ascend an easy aerial platforming course with 6 segments, five of which are themed after a different Gimkit mode. This is the first platformer mode in Gimkit. Answer questions to gain energy. Avoid lasers in the sixth segment, which is based on One Way Out.

Blastball is like soccer, but players use a Blaster to shoot the ball into the opposing goal. The teams are Gimchester United and Kitcelona. The team with the most goals at the end wins.

Knockback is similar to Snowbrawl, except that it is a platformer. However, players answer questions for energy instead of ammo. Players increase their fragility when getting hit instead of losing health. Players use the Pixelator gadget which deals 20 damage. If a player knocks a player off the map (each hit pushes back the player) then they lose 50 fragility and gain 1 point.

In Apocalypse, there are enemies attacking you called "zombies" and the goal is to survive for a long time without them hitting the base with their hammers. Choose from a variety of roles that change your movement speed and/or shooting gadget. Also, there are both offensive and defensive roles. Offensive roles attack the zombies, while defensive roles are more active in defense such as building walls or repairing/healing the base.

Diamond Rush is a pointless 2D mode where players walk around to hit yellow things called Chance Blocks, which can grant gadgets, give or take away diamonds, change damage boosts or speed, or do annoying things like changing the Gim you use. The goal is to have the most diamonds out of any player.
