Respect for the Diversity of People and Cultures

Respect for the Diversity of People and Cultures acknowledges the unique gifts, contributions and perspectives of individuals and groups, reinforcing the value of participatory decision-making and collaborative action.

At Milford we try to ensure that all children feel safe at school, they are encouraged to embrace their uniqueness and stand up for their own perspectives.

Appreciating each child's differences makes us all feel special and respected for who we are.

Below are some of the ways that we encourage diversity at Milford School.

Peace Week

Each year, Milford School celebrates Peace week with a different theme. In 2020 we celebrated our diversity.

Translating the IB Learner Profile Attributes into different languages

Since becoming a PYP school in 2019 our 2nd language students have created our learner profile attributes in their own first languages to share with their peers.

Diverse Library Books

In our school library we have many books celebrating our differences, some of these are in English, but we also celebrate diversity by providing a large variety of books in other languages.

Celebrating Diversity in our classrooms

Cultural food, acknowledging religious holidays, customs and languages are all celebrated in our classrooms

Korean & Chinese Choirs

Korean and Chinese parents run our choirs. These choirs perform in assemblies sharing their traditional songs in their first language.

Food Fiesta

The School held a food fiesta, celebrating the foods from our diverse community. Unfortunately it poured with rain, but everyone still got to taste the amazing foods.
