Learning for Sustainability

Learning for Sustainability recognises the types of teaching and learning that use connecting experiences to develop holistic and ecological perspectives, foster student enquiry, decision-making, action, and reflection, and create sustainable outcomes.

At Milford School all of our learning links to the Guiding Principals and Learning for Sustainability.

We ensure that we continue to make links and give environmental perspectives and awareness through our actions, practices, processes and across all disciplines.

Some examples of these are shared below.

Garden Club

Milford School has had a garden club for more than a decade. Run by dedicated teachers it is a popular lunchtime activity for a range of enthusiastic children. Sowing seeds, looking after the gardens and using the produce: teaching children about the importance of home grown goodness.

Nude Food Sessions

In 2019, we put together a series of sessions to teach about nude food.

Eddie the Penguin

Our junior Productions are regularly environmentally themed. Teaching the children about sustainability through song and dance.

Conservation Volunteers New Zealand

Year 5 had the opportunity to learn about the Long Fin Eels in a conservation day in 2019.

Tread Lightly Caravan

We try to ensure that experiences the children have at school include access to external environmental providers.
