Stay at home if unwell – Should a child develop symptoms as outlined above, they must stay at home. A child with a blocked or runny nose, but no fever, can attend school but if they require paracetamol or ibuprofen, they must stay at home for 48 hours and parents or guardians should contact the GP to assess whether a test is required.
Covid test – Please notify the Principal if a child is getting a Covid test.
– If a child/parent is getting a covid test, due to being symptomatic, all siblings/children must be withdrawn from school by their parent. However, if the test is as a result of being a close contact, siblings/children do not need to be withdrawn.
If Day student displays Covid-19 symptoms in school
– Student taken to isolation area.
– Parents notified and are requested to collect child and contact their GP in relation to a for test.
– If a student is to be tested, all siblings (and parent if staff member) are withdrawn from the school.
– A masked staff member will care for the child whilst waiting.
– Test results notified to the school.
– All classrooms that the student has been in that day & the isolation area are closed until cleaned.
– High or very high risk students may be removed from class.
– Families of students with family in very high risk category may be notified.
If negative ('not detected')
– Student returns when well enough to do so.
– All diarrhoea symptoms need to have been resolved for 48 hours prior to return to school.
If positive ('detected')
– HSE will be contacted and will manage the situation.
– HSE will notify the school.
– School will follow HSE advice.
– A detected case, will not necessarily result in partial or whole school closure.
