I think that allowing students to have freedom and choice while doing science labs is super important, but it also needs to be structured to ensure the safety of all students and equipment. There are many good rules teachers can put into place, but I personally believe my #1 science rules is to "Listen and Follow directions." At the beginning of every lab, it is important that the teachers explain the steps and procedures, if students are actively listening, they will know what and what not do during the rest of the lab. It is also important for student to listen to teachers' directions because the teachers can explain any dangers, give feedback, or simply give helpful directions anytime throughout the whole science lesson. I think that if students can listen and follow direction, any science lesson/ lab can succeed.
