Incorporating writing in science is often forgotten about, but it can be very easy! At any grade you can add writing to make science lesson more engaging and memorable.
For younger students the best way to incorporate writing into science is to allow students to take small number of notes on graphic organizers, keep a science notebook and writing out predictions. To make these writing examples easier for younger students I would include sentence starters, write the notes alongside them and help out wherever is necessary depending on the students.
For older students doodle notes, recording data from labs and science notebooks are all great tools to keep students writing during science. Although these look different in older grades, they are very engaging ways to promote writing in science!
