Miami students who are receiving federal financial aid are expected to meet requirements to continue receiving aid. SAP does not affect scholarships or private loans. One of these requirements is that you must have a 2.00 cumulative GPA or higher for an undergraduate degree. You also must complete an undergraduate degree within 150% of the length of an academic program. If you are attaining an associate's this is 96 credit hours and for a bachelor's this is 186 credit hours. If you go over this, you will not receive federal aid. A great way to raise your GPA is utilizing the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC). You can schedule both in-person and virtual sessions through Miami's website linked here. They also offer peer mentoring which helps you learn time management, study skills, organization, and more with a 1:1 meeting. TLC offers specialized class tutoring for notably difficult classes, and they have writing tutoring sessions for any class. Utilizing these tools will help you succeed in your college career and are all free services for students.
If you are under a 2.00 GPA and are under suspension, not all hope is lost. You can talk with your academic advisor for help and you also can appeal if you under suspension or termination. There is also a policy called "Fresh Start". If you have been gone for 2 calendar years and are an undergraduate student, you might be able to be approved for this policy. This allows you to not be under suspension or termination, but this can only be used once. For more information click here.
