Before signing up for classes you may want to meet up with you academic advisor for guidance. For more information about academic advisors click here. To look up courses you can look at Miami's Course List. This allows you to search up classes by term, campus, subject, and more. It is a good idea to look up the class offerings for the upcoming semester to decide what you want to enroll in before your registration time ticket opens.
To register, you will need to be signed in to your myMiami account and navigate to course registration through BannerWeb.
BannerWeb > Student Services & Financial Aid > Registration
Instruction Video: How Do I Register in Bannerweb?
Each class will have a class description explaining what that class will teach you. An example of this is the image below describing CIT 214. The description explains that is teaches students a practical and applied approach for database management. It also shows a prerequisite class which is CIT 168. For more information about prerequisites click here.

When registering for courses, students may come across a class they need to sign up for that is already full. Students can use the waitlisting feature in BannerWeb to "wait in line" for the next available spot. Once a spot in the class becomes available, students will be notified via their Miami email and will be given a certain amount of time to register for the course. Failure to register within the given time limit will cause the student to lose their spot and they will have to waitlist for the course again. Note: Not every course is available for waitlisting.

You may submit a Registration Override Request (ROR) when you are trying to register for a course that is already full and does not use waitlisting, when you need to enroll for prerequisite classes concurrently, or if you have an error during registration. If you are getting a prerequisite error, that means that you haven't taken the classes that you need to take before being allowed to take the class you're trying to sign up for. Your advisor can also submit an ROR for you and help you understand what errors you might see and why.

Before signing up for a class check your DAR. This will allow you to see the classes you need to take for your degree plan. You want to make sure you're taking the necessary classes that will count towards your Miami plan and major.
Your Miami plan is also important to understand. For example, you want to be an English major and earn a bachelor's degree in English. You will still need to take a science class and a lab, an arts & humanities class, and more. College gives you a well rounded education and explores several subject no matter your choice in degree.
