For my WeSearch project I decided to research my dad Phil Dieudonne. The reason I decided to research him is because I have heard stories about his past but I wasn't very familiar with it. I was hoping for this project that I could get closer with my dad and be able to understand him better through his life story. For this project I interviewed my mom Dana Dieudonne and my dad Phil Dieudonne. For this project I mainly focused on his childhood so I could understand his mindset when he was my age. Two new things I learned about my dad is when he was younger he moved around in many places also, school life in the begging was kind of hard for him since he didn't now how to speak English.
Phil Dieudonne was born in 1970 to Jacqueline Dieudonne His mother came from Haiti to America in 1961 while pregnant with him. A year later his father came to be his wife and son. They decided to move to America mainly for a better way of life. There was a transition at the time during the Haiti government when the son Jean-Claude Duvalier took over, this made life in Haiti very difficult. When it came to the teenage years of his life he moved a lot around in Brooklyn Marlboro houses South Brooklyn. In his teenage years, from ages 4-8, they moved to Sunset Park, Flatbush, a better version, etc. At age 16 his parents bought a home in South Queen Hollis which was a major transition in life.
It helped understand the American that the American Dream is just something that people want to do better for themselves. And regardless of where you grew up or how your childhood was its something people strive for so they can do better in life. This also is so that there family is able to do better in life.
