My parents at a party for my dads niece
For my wesearch product I decided to research my dad Jair Jesus Cheng because Ive always been curious about his background and why his mindset is the way that it is today. I interviewed my dad as it is his story I want to know more about. 3 new things I learned about my dad was that he was the middle child and I thought he was the oldest, when telling me about his lineage I learned we have "some type of indian" somewhere in the family, and I also learned that my dad does believe in the American dream, Which I thought was interesting.
Jair Cheng was born in Colón Panama on June 15 1981, and is a Hispanic man from Panama, he is also Chinese, Jamaican, and a little indian. He moved to New york when he was 7 years old to be with his mother. Jair has 2 siblings and lived with his single mother who had to work a lot. School was a struggle because of the language barrier and could only speak spanish for a while though his mother helped him it was still a struggle. Jair had been stuck in a society changing so fast he was still getting used to the old trends. Throughout highschool Jair learned many lessons to turn him into the wise man he is today. He is now a Mta bus driver who believes he has met the American Dream.
A Birthday from when he was younger
My dads 40t Birthday
My dad has helped me understand the american dream because at first I didn't exactly know what to believe about the American Dream but for my dad, an immigrant who has many opinions about how society has treated him and other people believes in it because of the hard work and dedication you need to put in to live and do things the way you like. I've always thought of my dad very highly, and he has helped me towards the growth mindset I have today.
"When Jair was asked in an interview if his ancestors would be proud of him, he said, “yes, im making changes, you have to have structure and balance. My grandfather did it, my fathers father raised a family, him my grandma and his children, my father, my aunt, and uncles, he did that and he raised us a little bit” with that being said he also said he considered himself to be “Hard working, outgoing, and a great provider for my family and children, call on me for anything hoorah hoorah”. Although Jair does not have many memories from growing up, Jair learned a lot of things that involved loyalty and how cruel the world will treat you. Many of the morals and lessons Jair has learned have come from multiple experiences as he grew up. In an interview with Jair He was asked what was the most significant thing to have happened in all your life? And his response was: when each of my children were born, “when you guys were born (Alysa, Michael, & Eli)”. Some of the lessons Jair learned and wishes to pass on to his children are, “your word is your bond”. “Yes I can and Yes I will”. “Be young, be a kid, don't try to grow up so fast, enjoy it while you can”. “you won't always have your friends with you”. “People come and they go”."
