You may stay after school on Wednesday (until 5:00 at the latest) to work with Ms. Hoitt on your solo!
Scroll down for the schedule!
Warm up your voice before you arrive (try this video). Arrive at Vanston about 10-15 minutes before your time to get settled. You can arrive earlier than that if you would like. Enter through door 17 and wait in the cafeteria. Parents may come in the building with their child and wait in the cafeteria while they sing.
Songs must be memorized, but you can bring your sheet music to look at beforehand. You will sing with a track that does not have a voice on it. If you use your sheet music in the performance, you will not be able to earn a 1 (superior) rating. You will still get feedback on your voice, though, which is valuable.
When you walk into the room, greet the judge with a smile. :) Say, "Hi, my name is (___first___ ___last___), and I will be singing (____song title____)." Speak clearly and confidently. The judge will play your Piano Only track, and you will begin.
When you're finished singing, check if your score is available in the cafeteria. After that, you are free to go! (I'm not sure if they will have live scoring this year, so please be flexible on that. If you don't find out your score right after you're finished, I will give you your score on Monday.)
Singers should wear nice-looking, comfortable clothes. Absolutely NO sweat pants, crocs, or slides. Jeans are okay if you dress them up a bit! If you are not comfortable in heels, don't wear them. It could impact your performance.

You will use the "Piano Only" tracks in the actual performance. There is no voice to help you. You got this!
For 7th and 8th grades only. 6th graders, get excited to participate next year!
Sign-up is now closed.
