About The Observatory

The Observatory, on top the Mendel Center, was donated by the Ladies of Merrimack in the 1990's. The Merrimack College Observatory houses a 18 inch telescope capable of many breathtaking views. During the semester students operators host open student nights once a week from 8pm-10pm. The North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club (NSAAC) host an open night for the public on Wednesdays. The main telescope is able to see objects with a magnitude less than 15.5. During the summer the observatory is continued to be used by NSAAC and for astronomical research by MCARG.

The three most recent Observatory directors are;

  • Ralph Pass, Adjunct Professor of Physics 2009-2017
  • Kelsey Hargrove, Laboratory Coordinator 2017-2018
  • Chris Duston, Assistant Professor of Physics 2018-present
