SPANISH classes at mhs

All Spanish classes focus on developing oral communication, writing, and reading skills; understanding cultural awareness, value systems, and life styles; and require oral participation.  The following activities will be incorporated at each level: written exercises, homework (about one and a half-hours per week), skits, dialogues, oral and written compositions, and cultural activities.

INTRODUCTION TO SPANISH LANGUAGE & CULTURE

Prerequisite:  Instructor Permission                                         

College Credits:  None                 

MHS Credit: 1 Credit

Grade Level: 10-12                            

Length:  One Year

Introduction to Spanish Language & Culture meets the graduation requirement for foreign language. It is intended for students seeking only one year of high school Foreign Language instruction and who are not planning to earn a Bachelor's Degree after high school graduation.

Prerequisite:  None

Grade Level: 9-12                            

Length:  One Year

Students learn basic oral, writing, and reading skills and practice oral communication daily.  Basic vocabulary and fundamental grammar is combined with everyday expressions and pronunciation.  Cultural study will look at the geography, customs, and traditions of the Hispanic world. It is HIGHLY Recommended that ALL college-bound students take Spanish I

Spanish II

Prerequisite:  Spanish I    

College Credits:  None                 

MHS Credit: 1 Credit

Grade Level:  9-12                         

Length:  One Year

 Students review and expand upon basic Spanish as oral, written, and reading skills progress to intermediate grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills.  Collaborative and group work enables students to practice all the skills toward improving communication level.

**Certain Native Spanish Language Speaking Students can be placed into Spanish II without taking Spanish I

***It is HIGHLY Recommended that ALL College-Bound students take Spanish 2 (in addition to) Spanish I


Spanish III & IV

Prerequisite:  Spanish II

College Credits:  None                 

MHS Credit: 1 Credit

Grade Level:  10-12                         

Length:  One Year

This advanced, upper level class is for students who excelled in Spanish II and wish to continue their foreign language studies. Students will also expand outside the classroom to practice language with native speakers on a weekly basis.

AP Spanish

Prerequisite:  Spanish II or Spanish III

College Credits:  Varies               

MHS Credit: 1 Credit

Grade Level:  10-12                         

Length:  One Year

 This advanced, upper level class is for students who excelled in Spanish wish to continue their foreign language studies. Focus will include extensive preparation for AP Spanish Exam.
