The ship has three types of consumer power in the labs and work areas: European (220V, 50Hz, European style plug), North American (110v, 60 Hz, US style plug) and 230V 60Hz (please note that this is non-standard).
The cabins have 230V 60Hz (please note that this is non-standard) power, with European style outlets, ONLY. Please bring your own plug adapters (and power strip, if desired) as the ship doesn’t provide these. Please be very careful about what you plug into adapters to ensure that it is compatible with the power being supplied. Failure to do so may ruin your equipment and pose a grave fire hazard.
Ship power is sometimes subject to spikes and brownouts. Clean power refers to power that is conditioned to remove these issues. The power on Falkor (too) is usually very good. Some outlets are specially designated clean power. If you have critical equipment, please bring a surge protector and use the clean power outlets.
European Plug and Socket (CEE 7/3 socket and CEE 7/4 plug; a.k.a. Schuko style)
Falkor (too) does not typically provide public use computers. Most people bring laptops and/or mobile devices. If there are a large number of people traveling without computers, a request may be made via the Chief Scientist and we will attempt to have a machine available for personal use.
Printers, ink, and paper are provided on board Falkor (too). Paper size is A4. We supply enough materials for average use. We are not able to support printing lots of scientific papers for everyone aboard. If you anticipate heavy print needs, please inform the Chief Scientist of your needs so we can plan ahead. We also are able to print a limited amount of larger, poster size prints for producing charts, etc. If you anticipate this type of printing, please arrange this with the Chief Scientist so that we can ensure we have sufficient supplies.
Please plan on bringing your own tape, line, cable ties, wipes, office supplies, etc.
Please plan on bringing your own lab supplies including BenchCote, gloves, pipette tips, Kim Wipes, spill clean up materials, secondary containment, markers and personal protective equipment (PPE). Falkor (too) does not provide any lab supplies.
Hard hats, Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) and steel toe shoes or boots are strongly recommended for working on deck. The ship will provide hard hats and PFDs but you must provide your own steel toe shoes or boots.
