Network Access Request

Introduction

In order to access the networks and internet aboard R/V Falkor (too), it is necessary to have network security code (voucher) issued before you join the vessel.  Devices not having an internet browser, or those locked in such a way that they are unable to have software added, must have their MAC addresses submitted prior to arrival at the ship.  It is possible that you may have devices that fall into each category, in which case you'll need to complete both forms.  If you have any difficulties, have questions or need to connect more than three devices, please contact the Science Systems Senior Manager.

Devices With a Browser

For devices that have an internet browser please fill out the form linked to below.  This covers most devices, including computers, smart phones and tablets.  Completing one form will allow access for up to three devices.  If you need to connect more than three devices, please contact the Science Systems Senior Manager (and don't fill out a second form).

Devices Without a Browser

For devices that do not have an internet browser or those that are locked by an institution, please use the form linked to below.  This includes devices such as instruments, networked cameras, etc.  For these devices, you will need the Media Access Control (MAC) Address (Example: 00:C0:17:B6:8A:04).  Note that devices have a unique MAC address for each Network Interface Card (NIC) and so will have a unique MAC Address for WiFi and for each ethernet connection.  If one device will be connecting with more than one MAC address, please fill in one section of the form for each MAC Address.

• • From the Apple Menu, choose "About This Mac"

• • Choose "System Report"

• • Record the MAC Address

    • The MAC Address for the WiFi card is shown.  If you have an ethernet card installed (or a dongle in the case of a laptop), and are using a wired connector, the MAC Address will appear in "Hardware" dropdown under "Ethernet Cards".

Locating the MAC Address on other devices varies but usually entails accessing the device via an IP address, often through an administrator control panel.  Please refer to your device's manual.
